Junior finance major Brent Folan will serve as SGA President and around 26 percent of the student body voted for the position. The online voting portal opened Tuesday at 7 a.m.
According to TCU’s Office of Institutional Research 2011 Fact Book, there are 8,229 undergraduate students enrolled this fall. At the end of the election, there were 2,200 total votes for SGA President.
This year's presidential election had 52 more votes compared to the last contested race.
SGA members were outside of the Mary Couts Burnett Library on Tuesday handing out free hot dogs and asking students to vote in the election.
There were campaign signs spread across campus for a few weeks similar to a national election. The signs were only one way candidates tried to woo voters.
All of this year’s candidates explained their platform and goals during a TCU News Now debate in October. Three of the five candidates ran unopposed and were appointed to thier postions. David Belpedio is Treasurer, Graham McMillan is Vice President of External Relations and Joshua Simpson is Vice President of Operations.
The presidential position was the only contested race this year. Folan and junior political science and economics double major Saman Sadeghi took their presidential campaign viral and posted videos to try to reach even more students.
