The TCU women’s soccer team weathered a wet field after two separate rain delays but was unable to hold off the Stephen F. Austin Lady Jacks, falling 2-0.

Both teams waited in the locker room 45 minutes after the original start time to take the field.  They would return to the locker room 25 minutes later when the warning siren went off again.

The Lady Horned Frogs used those breaks to re-focus and stay loose, freshman forward Lindsy Schafer said.

“Some of us hadn’t eaten in like six hours so just making sure we’re replenishing our bodies and that kind of thing so we were ready,” she said.

Before the second rain delay, the Lady Jacks attempted seven shots on goal while holding TCU to four. A 30 minute rain delay would stop the clock with 20 minutes left to play. When they returned to action, TCU got more three shots and limited Stephen F. Austin to one.

The Lady Jacks dominated ball possession in the second half and converted two of their eight shot attempts into goals. The first goal came at the 33:59 mark of the second from forward Zuri Prince. Prince dropped the ball in the net over the top of TCU goalkeeper Vittoria Arnold’s outstretched arm. Midfielder Kylie Louw was credited with the assist.  

“If they're able to string passes together, then we can’t try to keep the game on one side of the field or the other and take away some of the things that they’re wanting to do, then we’re going to struggle,” head coach Eric Bell said. “So hopefully it will be a learning lesson. We’ll see what type of character this group has as we go forward.”

The Lady Jacks would add to their lead with 25 seconds left in the game. Forward Chelsea Raymond pulled Arnold out of the net and punched the ball into the empty goal.

“We came out hard but not hard enough,” Schafer said. “We made some crucial mistakes and weren’t able to recover. They wanted it more than we did. We have to get better with putting our heart into the game and working harder for it and not making simple mistakes.”

The rain was not a factor in the outcome, Bell said. The Lady Frogs did not execute properly and got punished for that.

Stephen F. Austin handed TCU their first loss of the season. The Lady Frogs dropped to 1-1-1 on the season while the Lady Jacks improved to 3-1-0. TCU will visit Rice on Friday. Game time is set for 7 p.m.
