Toppers Pizza is already marking its territory in Fort Worth as the first location in Texas.
The first 50 customers in line before 10:30 a.m would receive a coupon book for free food for one year. Fans of the chain as well as newcomers lined up outside the restaurant, wrapped around the side of the building.
Freshman nursing major Courtney Thompson said she and a few friends stood in line since 3:30 a.m. in order to be one of the 50 to receive a coupon book. She also said she would come to Toppers at least once a week.
Freshman biology major Justin Rich said he was “pumped” to be number 37 in line and to receive the coupon book.
The Toppers Pizza franchise is a Wisconsin-based chain that is rapidly expanding in the United States, field marketing coordinator Mac Malchow said.
He said the owners of the Berry Street location are Fort Worth natives and knew it would be a perfect fit for this area because it caters to the 18 to 34-year-old demographic and offers reasonable prices.
Malchow said superior customer service is what makes this chain of pizza restaurants special and that Toppers wants to be a part of the community and campus life here at TCU.
He also said Toppers is hoping to expand to the West 7th Street bar area. The Fort Worth restaurant opened about three and a half weeks ago in preparation for the football crowd at the Grambling State game.
The restaurant opens at 10:30 a.m. every day and closes at 3 a.m. every morning.
