Chancellor Victor Boschini will kick off the official opening of TCU's 140th academic year at the Fall Convocation and Founder's Day Celebration on Tuesday morning.
“In the past, Fall Convocation consisted of a choral performance followed by the Chancellor’s remarks,” Karen Baker, Chief of Staff, said. “TCU has decided to deviate from the traditional format and try a panel discussion followed by the address.”
The panel discussion will consist of a variety of faculty, staff and students, Baker said. The panelists will answer questions regarding their perceptions of campus, what can be improved at the university for the future and the strengths and weaknesses of TCU.
The nine panelists include Roseangela Boyd, Phil Hartman, Linda Hughes, Rhonda Keen, Mike Marshall, Sue McClellan, Austin Minor, Vanessa Norris and Greg Stephens.
Baker said the Chancellor’s address will focus on the past year and what he anticipates for the coming year, which includes the Academy of Tomorrow.
The project, part of the Intellectual Commons, is focused on the innovation TCU plans on implementing by adding a building behind the library with formal learning spaces like traditional classrooms and lecture halls.
The recipient of the Chancellor’s Award for Distinguished Achievement as a Creative Teacher and Scholar and the recipient of the Wassenich Award for Mentoring in the TCU Community will be presented, Baker said.
After convocation, the annual Founders Celebration will be held on the lawn by the Clark Brothers statue, according to a story released by the Office of Communications. The entire campus can come together and celebrate the history of TCU and its founders.
Classes are dismissed for tomorrow's convocation from 10:30 a.m. to 12:15 p.m., and the line will form in front of Ed Landreth Auditorium at 10:45 a.m.
All students are welcome to attend the ceremony.
