TCU and Kansas are less than an hour away from kickoff here at Memorial Stadium in Lawrence. Some last-minute notes as the Horned Frogs near their Big 12 debut:
Kind of an overcast morning here in Lawrence but it feels great. It’s about 63 degrees with not too much of a breeze. Forecasts are calling for highs in the low-70s. Should be perfect football weather for the second straight week.
In case you missed it, TCU will play LSU at Cowboys Stadium in next year’s season opener, the Fort Worth Star-Telegram reported last night.
TCU will be wearing white jerseys, white pants and purple helmets with, of course, the “Fat Frog” under the arched TCU logo. Kansas will be wearing blue jerseys, white pants and blue helmets.
Pretty healthy contingent of TCU fans from what I’ve seen so far. Several tailgate areas outside the stadium, and already a few bits of purple sitting in the southeast corner of the stands.
TCU receiver Skye Dawson will be back in action today after serving a one-game suspension surrounding an “institutional policy and football policy” matter, coach Gary Patterson said. Dawson will likely start at punt returner over freshman Deante’ Gray who set a school record last week with 160 return yards on five attempts, including a touchdown.
Patterson talked some about this Tuesday, but TCU might have a bit of an advantage (or maybe a slightly lesser disadvantage) due to the track surrounding Kivisto Field here at Memorial Stadium. Should help with crowd noise seeing as the fans aren’t exactly on top of the field.
Keep an eye on who the Frogs go with at punter. Cale Patterson had TCU’s only two punts last week, but Gary Patterson said freshman Ethan Perry will also make the trip today.
