Although it is new to the university campus, the event has been held throughout the nation on the fourth Wednesday of September for the past 22 years. 

“The body of Christ at TCU is growing, it’s moving, and it can be seen through the facility, be seen through the students,” said Graham McMillan, co-director of Exodus, a religious retreat for first-year students as well as the SGA vice president of external affairs.

McMillan said he participated in the event in high school and wanted to recreate the event on the college level. He said he was pleased with the turnout for the event.

“I figured at 7 a.m. on a Wednesday for college students, I would only get about 15 people to show up," McMillan said. "But we got over thirty, and many more faculty members than I expected.”

Missy Haines, business operations analyst for Housing & Residential Life, said she came to the event because she appreciated the fellowship and support from the faculty she received as a student at the university and wanted to give back to the student body. 

Darcie Nicholson, a senior strategic communication major, said it can be difficult to participate in an event like "See You at the Pole" because it required bravery on her part to be open in faith on campus. She said she felt led to participate in the prayer event because of what she felt in her heart.

“I think the thing the Lord laid on my heart this morning was to pray for the campus culture," Nicholson said. "And that we wouldn’t value stress, to-do lists, body image, what others think or the social scene.”

According to the “See You at the Pole” website, the event began in Burleson, Texas in 1990 with a small group of students. The movement has spread to more than three million students in over 20 countries.

McMillan said that Exodus TCU leaders planned to organize the event again next year.
