Alpha Kappa Alpha’s Ivy Week consisted of seven different events benefiting the Tarrant Area Food Bank, Asthma and Allergy Prevention Foundation, American Heart Association and Women’s Battered Foundation. The series of events began on Sunday, Sept. 23.

Ivy Week included the following events: “More than Faithful”: Church at Crossroads; “More than Pretty”: Pumps for Power; “More than Poised”: Tea and Cookies; “More than Hype”: Luau and Voter Registration Sign-Up; “More than Trust”: The Dating Game; “More than PHit”: Greek Olympics; “More than a Game": Community Service” and SMU vs. TCU game kickoff party.

Kaylen Green, senior fashion merchandising major, said the eight members of Alpha Kappa Alpha created this year’s Ivy Week to reach goals set by their national headquarters.

Green said that every year the events featured during the week change because of the different goals that their national headquarters presents to them.

Green said “Pumps for Power” was her favorite event because she was able to speak about women’s dress, being the best you can be and interviewing and attire for working women.

President of Alpha Kappa Alpha, Chelsea Rowel, said their sorority donated over 30 pairs of shoes to the Women’s Battered Shelter after the event. 

Rowel said one of her favorite parts of the week was when 97.9 The Beat came to the social event on Wednesday and promoted unity during their college tour.

“I think Ivy Week went really well, good topics were covered and awesome guest speakers came out,” Rowel said.
