The TCU women’s soccer team hosts its last home game series of the season this weekend as they take on the Texas Tech University Red Raiders and the University of Texas Longhorns.
The Horned Frogs only have three games left, and with one tie on record in conference play, they have to win at least two games to reach post season play. Head Coach Eric Bell said the team’s mentality has to be better on a consistent basis to win this weekend.
TCU fell to the University of Oklahoma Sooners last weekend. 3-1. The one point the Frogs scored was by junior forward Brittany Slyman. Slyman said she realizes that they have some tough games ahead, but resolved that the team is ready for them.
“We want to come back with some wins,” she said.
Coming off the loss against the Sooners, freshman center defender Bobbi Clemmer said the team is playing for pride. She said the team has not definitively won a conference game so far this season.
“Coming off of a tie and a loss I feel like we have more of a drive to get a win this weekend,” she said.
Clemmer, who’s played every second of every game this season, said the Frogs’ defensive game will need to be sharp, making sure they don’t give up any points. She is setting her mentality in place to come away with a win, she said.
Bell said he expects an aggressive offense from the Red Raiders.
“We have to make sure they don’t have their way with the ball," he said.
The Frogs will need to value the ball and possess it long enough to create scoring opportunities, he said.
Although the Horned Frogs have to play two games this weekend, Bell said, the team handles each game one at a time. He said if the team brings the proper mentality to the field, “coming out to fight first and then making it a soccer game,” then he believes the team can be successful.
The women’s soccer team is 5-8-2 on the season, but, Bell said, the team is still learning.
“It’s test time now, and we need to figure out a way to get a good grade," Bell said.
The Frogs are back in action at the Garvey-Rosenthal Soccer Stadium Friday. Match time is set for 7:00 p.m.
