Three-and-a-half miles separate crosstown rivals Fort Worth Country Day and Trinity Valley , but the gap will be closed Friday for the annual “Battle of Bryant Irvin.”

Not only do FWCD and Trinity Valley share the same street, but they also hold the same record of three wins and five losses on the season. Both teams are tied for fifth place in the south division of the Southwest Preparatory Conference.

Last week, Trinity Valley could not break through the St. John’s defense in the second half. The Trojans lost 27-14, dropping their fourth conference game.

FWCD broke its five-game losing streak by defeating St. Andrew’s, 42-19. With the exception of injuries, it was the first game everyone was eligible to play after the suspension of 17 players two weeks ago.

“It felt like we were a team again,” said senior defensive end Will Arnold, who was one of the suspended players.

Arnold said homecoming lifted his teammates’ spirits and given them a boost of confidence for the Trinity Valley game.

“We know them, they know us. We see them around town, we see them on the weekends,” Arnold said. “TVS is one of our biggest, if not our biggest game we play. Our seniors have grown up thinking, if we can’t do anything else, beat TVS.”

Last season, the Trojans beat the Falcons, 42-3.

FWCD has won once in the past seven years against Trinity Valley in the regular season. The Falcons’ only win came in 2010, the year FWCD was undefeated and won the Division II SPC Championship.

“We want the ‘Battle of Bryant Irvin’ trophy back in our trophy case,” senior quarterback Morgan Pergande said. “I want to end my career against Trinity Valley with a huge win.”

It will be short trip for the Falcons as they travel to Rosenthal Stadium for the chance to win back the trophy and bragging rights. Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m.
