Jeramey Kraatz, a TCU alumnus and published author, will speak about his young adult novel Wednesday as part of the Live Oak Reading Series.

Jeramey Kraatz will read from his debut novel, “The Cloak Society.”  It is about a boy born into a family of supervillains. 

“The Cloak Society” is the first book in his trilogy. According to Kraatz, the second book will be published next fall and the third book in the fall of 2014.

Kraatz studied advertising and English at the university. He later graduated from the Master of Fine Arts program at Columbia University, where he studied non-fiction writing.

Charlotte Hogg, associate professor of English and director of composition, used Kraatz's work as part of her classes in 2006. 

“He always wrote more than he needed to, but not in an obnoxious way,” Hogg said. “He was really good at giving feedback to other people in the class and took a lot of care with their writing.”

There will be a Q&A session in Scharbauer 4015 at 12:30 p.m. to 1:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Students can ask Kraatz about writing and the process he went through in order to get his book published.

The reading will take place in Moudy South 320 at 7 p.m. on Wednesday.

There will be another Q&A and book signing following Kraatz’s reading in the evening. Copies of his book will be sold at the event.
