The TCU women’s basketball team won its first game of the season after defeating the University of Central Florida 61-55.

The Frogs are now 1-1 on the season. TCU is 3-0 in its match-ups against UCF.

Junior Latricia Lovings won the tip off for the Frogs, but after a missed shot the Knights recovered and had the first score of the game from a layup by Junior Kayli Keough.

TCU had their biggest lead of the game by 8 points in the first quarter but trailed the quarter at the end by 12. The rest of the half the Frogs only shot 20 percent from inside the paint and 12 percent from outside.

The Frogs improved their game during the second half shooting 28 percent inside the paint and 17 percent outside. A majority of their points this game came from the 26 points scored at the free throw line.

The lead changed five times throughout the game and TCU went into the second half down 29-23, but freshman Kamy Cole had 5 unanswered points, putting the Frogs in a lead that lasted the rest of the half.

Sophomore Natalie Ventress led the Frogs in scoring, making 6-of-13 from the field, 1-of-7 in 3-pointers and 7-of-9 from the free throw line.

The Frogs comitted 19 of the 35 turnovers in the game.

“It was an incredibly sloppy game from the start,” head coach Jeff Mittie said.

The frogs were fortunate to win and still have a lot of work to do in preparation for the rest of the season, he said.

TCU will take on Texas State Nov. 25 at 3 p.m.
