TCU football fans could see more expensive tickets and a Gary Patterson statue in 2016, said Director of Intercollegiate Athletics Chris Del Conte at the eighth annual athletic town hall meeting.

Fans and donors gathered in the brand new Ed and Rae Schollmaier Arena on Tuesday night to hear what changes could be coming to the TCU football program.

Del Conte said the average season ticket price will go up $50 next season. This moves available tickets to the public from a $200-$250 range to a $250-$300 range.

Del Conte said TCU has changed from a “jump-off point” to a “destination point.” Increasing ticket prices is part of the process if the university wants to keep up with other Big 12 schools, he said.

“I’m asking you to join me in this,” Del Conte said. “That will increase enough revenue to keep our coaches.”

He also talked about the possibility of a Big 12 championship game in the future.

Del Conte said at this point he is unsure what the conference will decide to do. However, a championship game will be discussed at a meeting with Big 12 presidents and chancellors on Feb. 4.

When addressing a question about how the university will receive TCU quarterback Trevone Boykin in wake of his recent arrest, Del Conte got choked up and paused.

“He’s ours,” Del Conte said. “I will welcome him back on this campus with open arms. He made a mistake. There’s so many good things that he did for us.”

Del Conte also confirmed that a Gary Patterson statue is in the works. He joked that the statue probably would not feature shoelaces that can be untied.

“I can assure you that we will be doing something this spring.”
