A large number of mathematicians gathered at TCU this weekend to talk research and networking.

Researchers and professors attended the 2016 Texas Geometry and Topography Conference at TCU. The conference occurs twice a year at different Texas universities.

The conference’s mission statement includes giving researchers a forum to speak about their work and to enrich the personnel base of the conference.

TCU mathematics department faculty members attended and hosted the conference. TCU graduate students also attended.

Conference attendees take note of how presenters have approached their research and consider those findings in their own research, TCU math professor and Graduate Director Ken Richardson said.

“Being here builds interest in the work we’re doing,” Richardson said.

The conference gave researchers a chance to network within an already small math community, Richardson said.

Sharfal Islam, a TCU graduate student, said the conference helps students gain interest in various areas of study and work.

Islam said the conversation topics can be complex for students, but just hearing about them can be exciting.
