John Paul Watson has won the election for student body president.
Watson will be joined by Vice President of Operations Kat Klein, Vice President of External Affairs Kelsey Ritchie, and Treasurer Drew Atkins.
The results were confirmed this morning by Morgan Bailie, chair of the Elections and Regulations Committee in the Student Government Association.
Watson ran against Ryker Thompson, who campaigned with Ritchie. The SGA election code does not operate on a two-person ticket system, which allowed Ritchie to win despite Thompson’s loss.
Ritchie’s opponent was sophomore Julia Zellers, while Atkins ran against junior Cara Doil. Klein ran unopposed.
Watson won the election by a close margin of 2 percent — just under 60 votes. The final vote was 50 percent for Watson and 48 percent for Thompson, with 2 percent abstaining.
Ritchie received 63 percent of the vote for vice president of external affairs compared to Zellers’ 32 percent. Atkins received 64 percent of the vote for treasurer, while Doil got 27 percent.
Unopposed Klein won 87 percent of the vote for vice president of operations, with 10 percent abstaining. The remaining voters chose a write-in candidate.
Just over 3,000 students voted in the election.
The results for the House of Representatives election will be announced later this afternoon.
