Head baseball coach Jim Schlossnagle agreed to a multi-year contract extension, athletics director Danny Morrison announced Saturday. Neither Schlossnagle nor Morrison would comment on specific terms of the new contract, but Schlossnagle, who has been at TCU for two years, said he is excited to have to opportunity to continue working with the program.
Morrison said he is excited about the future of the baseball team with Schlossnagle as head coach.
“Coach Schlossnagle and his staff have done a terrific job with the baseball program as far as athletic success and the academic progress of the team,” Morrison said.
Schlossnagle said TCU addressed his contract now because it is a vital time of year for recruiting.
“It is important for potential recruits to know what the security of the head coach is,” Schlossnagle said. “They want to know that I will still be their coach when they are seniors.”
Director of baseball operations Mike Dilley said the contract extension shows the administration wants to reward success and hard work.
“The program has really turned around and become very successful since coach Schlossnagle came,” Dilley said. “Everybody is excited about him staying. It will be great for the program.”
Since being hired in July 2003, Schlossnagle has led the Frogs to two winning seasons, boasting a record of 41-20 last season and 39-26 in 2004.
“We are proud of the team’s accomplishments under Jim’s guidance,” Morrison said.
Assistant coach Matt Siegel said the contract extension is well deserved.
“It is a continued reflection of commitment and continuity of the coaching staff,” Siegel said.
Siegel added that he looks forward to future seasons with Schlossnagle as the head coach.
“He and the staff are committed to getting this team to the College World Series,” Siegel said.
Schlossnagle said he looks forward to continued success at TCU.
“When you work with good people, you get good work,” Schlossnagle said. “It is nice to have security and nice to be wanted.
