With the beginning of each semester, the TCU Police have the task of filling spots for Froggie-Five-O drivers.Pam Christian, a crime prevention officer for TCU, said the TCU Police hired one new driver and will hire one more to fill vacant spots on the staff this semester.

Carter Schimpff, a freshman business major who recently completed his training as a driver, said he enjoys working for Froggie-Five-O.

“Driving the route is not that hard and I usually don’t have many problems,” Schimpff said. “It’s usually just girls that I pick up, not many guys ask for a ride.”

Kyle Lester, a senior social work major, trained Schimpff and said he is confident that Schmipff will be a driver for a while.

“I think he really likes the driving side of the job, and he is a pretty safe driver,” Lester said. “I don’t think he will be reckless at all.”

The training for the Froggie-Five-O drivers includes proper driving techniques of the carts, building numbers and proper etiquette when escorting women to and from the dormitories, he said.

“When we are driving and see a young woman walking, we always ask if she needs assistance or politely ask if she would like a ride,” Lester said. “We can escort up to four passengers, and if there are more students who need a ride, we always offer a walking escort.”

Christian said: “The campus escort service is mainly for young women who are walking from their cars to their dorms at night. The carts run from 8 p.m. to 1 a.m., and when the time changes it will be from 7 p.m. to 1 a.m.”

Christian said there is only one more spot left for a driver. “I will probably be able to fill the spot sometime next week,” she said.
