Baja FreshThe burrito definitely lived up to its name and tasted fresh. Sadly, though, it was rather bland even after doused with Baja Grill’s hot Salsa Roja. The vegetables were also good, but overgrilled. I did like Baja Grill, but overall, I am not sure it is worth the jaunt down Hulen, especially if there is traffic.

Chipotle

For $5.35, I got an overflowing vegetarian burrito. The rice cooked with cilantro was especially good, and the tortilla was soft and heated to a perfect lukewarm temperature. The pico was surprisingly spicy, but added nicely to the overall flavor. The burrito was so big though that after eating half of it, I started to feel heavy.

Alvarado’s

The beef was not great quality and my tortilla quickly fell apart. Not one to be discouraged, I trudged onward, but ended with a stomachache. All in all, with Alvarado’s, what you pay for is what you get.

Fuzzy’s Taco Shop

For $5.36, I got a short, fat thing stuffed with lettuce, tomatoes, shredded chicken, sour cream, guacamole and cheese. Fuzzy’s was not the slightest bit greasy or heavy. Though slightly bland, Fuzzy’s signature hot sauce, which the restaurant sells in individual bottles, adds a spicy and sweet taste. It made Fuzzy’s chicken burrito one of the best I have had and was good enough that it just might entice me away from my usual late-night Whataburger runs.

Freebird’s

As a whole, the burrito was fairly flavorful, especially for having no meat, and it lacked the heaviness some other burrito places have. I definitely liked Freebirds more than Baja Fresh, but I am not sure if it can stack up against burrito giants such as Chipotle.
