Singing and dancing in the Brown-Lupton Student Center Lounge attracted more than 60 students Wednesday night.Word of Truth Ministries, Calling In Action and the Soul Steppers all contributed to the praise and worship service, Calling Your Souls to Truth. In the midst of song and dance, TCU alumnus Brad Thompson spoke.
Feleceia Benton, manager of the CIA Christian dance ministry and vocal director for Word of Truth Ministries, said the night was centered on one purpose.
“We all do our individual things, but there’s one focus: His name is Jesus Christ,” said Benton, a senior theater arts and advertising/public relations major.
Benton said this is only the beginning of many collaborated events.
Word of Truth Ministries puts on a worship service, Prime Time Praise, the last Wednesday of every month. This time, the three groups worked together.
“It wouldn’t be enough without the dancing teams,” said Sean Blackwell, guitarist for the Word of Truth Gospel Choir. “They really contribute to a great ministry.”
Blackwell, a sophomore criminal justice major, was impressed by the turnout.
“Last year, it would have been half, on a good night,” Blackwell said.
Before the service started, all the chairs and couches were full. Some people stopped to watch as they were walking by. Employees at Frog Bytes were also part of the audience.
Employee Tamika Bolden heard a familiar song and joined in the singing.
“Earlier, I was mad, until I heard them singing,” Bolden said.
