The Horned Frogs dropped their first two Mountain West Conference games at Utah and Brigham Young last weekend, 1-0 and 4-0 respectively, but head coach Dan Abdalla said he felt his team posted an impressive performance on its first road trip of the season.”We were impressive in the second half against Utah and gave ourselves a chance to win,” Abdalla said. “We didn’t play to our best potential at BYU, and they came out to play maybe their best game. We just need to go watch the video and try and improve, but they were a great team, and they’ll go a long way.”

BYU was ranked No. 6 in the country going into the match this weekend.

Thursday’s game against Utah not only saw the TCU’s two-game winning streak come to a screeching halt, but junior goalie Katy Buchanan’s shutout streak of more than 277 minutes ended as well.

Buchanan, who finished the game with six saves, said she felt consistency could be the key to the team’s success.

“We need to work on being more consistent,” Buchanan said. “It starts with focusing for the game and just performing the same way every game.”

Freshman defender K.D. Waters led TCU’s attack with three of the Frogs’ six shots, but the Utes’ Katy Reineke provided the only goal of the night.

Against BYU, Jamie Beck scored twice for the Cougars leading their powerful offensive attack.

Freshman midfielder Caroline Starns saw TCU’s best scoring opportunity go for naught, as BYU goalie Ashley Smith recovered to block an apparently wide-open shot, paving the way to the Cougars’ route of the Frogs.

Junior midfielder Kim Thompson said she felt frustrated after the hard work and preparation they put into the weekend.

“We really need to work on our intensity,” said Thompson. “It’s really frustrating ’cause we’ve been working hard and practicing, but two of our hardest games over with so we just need to keep working and come out to play next weekend.”

Abdalla said the Frogs needs to come together more as a team to execute better.

“We just need to keep the field compact and do everything together more as a team and create more attack opportunities during the game,” Abdalla said.

The Frogs look to begin a new winning streak on their final home game of the season, beginning play against Abdalla’s former team, Nevada-Las Vegas on Friday, before playing San Diego State on Sunday afternoon at Garvey-Rosenthal Stadium.
