A convicted burglar was arrested Monday on charges of burglarizing TCU residence halls, TCU Police said.Police say they have caught the burglar who broke into two on-campus residences earlier this month while the occupants were asleep.

Fort Worth police arrested Richard Henry Ramfield, 28, at 9 a.m. Monday on charges of burglary of habitation. TCU Police said Ramfield is suspected of stealing a PlayStation, money and a wallet. Ramfield was released from the penitentiary Sept. 1 on similar charges, said TCU Police Sgt. Kelly Ham.

TCU Police said they believe Ramfield is responsible for one burglary Oct. 7 in Martin-Moore Hall and another burglary Oct. 11 in Milton Daniel Hall.

Ham and Detective Vicki Lawson were responsible for the investigation, which led to the identification of Ramfield.

Ham said the police followed an electronic trail to locate Ramfield. He said they followed the stolen credit card transactions and receipts.

Ham and Lawson interrogated Ramfield on Monday morning, and Ham said Ramfield confessed to both burglaries.

Ramfield, who has no connection to TCU, told the detectives he simply waited at the front door until students would let him in, Ham said.

Lawson said students need to learn to be more careful who they let into their residence halls.

“He looks like a typical TCU student, but he is not,” Lawson said. “I know students don’t want to be rude, but you just cannot let in people you don’t know.”

Travis Bailey, a sophomore business major, who has lived in Milton Daniel Hall for two years, said he has made the mistake of letting strangers in the residence hall before.

“I am always sure to lock the door to my room, though,” Bailey said.

Ramfield was taken to Fort Worth Jail, and it was expected he would be transported to Mansfield Jail, Ham said. Lawson said she had been in contact with Ramfield’s parole officer.

Bail for Ramfield was set at $50,000.
