The women’s golf team had a strong final round Wednesday in the Las Vegas Founders Women’s Collegiate Showdown but finished the three-day tournament 13th out of 16 teams.”We had a rough start, but we played well and ended on a positive note,” head coach Angie Ravaioli-Larkin said.

The Frogs improved each round but still finished 60 stokes behind champion UCLA.

Some of the players said they struggled the first day but felt they got back in the swing of things by the end of the tournament.

“We never gave up,” said junior Camille Blackerby, who tied for 24th in the individual standings.

Blackerby shot four over par, 14 shots behind tournament winner Hannah Jun of UCLA.

“I felt like I struggled on the greens, but in the end, I scored decent,” she said.

Some of the golfers said they weren’t too pleased with the scores, and they will use them to motivate themselves to play better against the top teams.

“We played well and were able to improve our score,” Catherine Matranga said.

Matranga scored eight over par-72 on the first day but recovered with rounds of 70 and 73 to finish 7 over par and tied for 35th.

“I went out there with an aggressive attitude and focused on getting the job done,” Matranga said.

Elin Emanuelsson, Stacey Bieber and Carrie Morris also competed in the tournament, shooting 12, 13 and 26 over par respectively.

The Frogs will return to the course Feb. 21 in the Lady Puerto Rico Classic in San Juan.
