Sophomore tennis player Nicole Leimbach, senior Helena Besovic and freshman Anna Sydorska will compete this weekend in the ITA National Intercollegiate Indoor Championship in Columbus, Ohio.The indoors begin today and Leimbach, who is ranked No. 1, is scheduled to face Natalie Frazier from Georgia in the first round.

“I feel prepared for this tournament,” Leimbach said. “I have been practicing a lot, and I am pretty confident going into the weekend.”

The tournament consists of 32 singles players and 16 doubles teams that finished high enough in regional competition to qualify for this tournament, head coach Dave Borrelli said.

“This tournament is one of three grand slams that the Frogs compete in,” Borrelli said. “The first grand slam Nicole (Leimbach) won in October, which qualified her for this tournament.”

The tournament, which goes through Sunday, takes place at the indoor Racquet Club of Columbus.

“This tournament is indoors, so it eliminates any weather factors or outside conditions to worry about,” Borrelli said. “It allows the players to really focus on the game.”

Leimbach echoed Borrelli’s opinion.

“The ITA Indoor is a great tournament because we don’t have to worry about weather conditions,” Leimbach said. “I can just worry about the game and not the weather factor.”

Besovic, who is ranked 21st, will also compete in singles for the Frogs.

“Besovic is scheduled to play Ela Kaluder from Arkansas in round one,” Borrelli said. “This indoor is pretty competitive, so all the matches should be fairly even.”

Sydorska will join Besovic for doubles competition.

The pair, which won the Wilson/ITA Southwest Regional Championship in October, is scheduled to face a duo from Pepperdine in round one this weekend.
