ONLILNE EXCLUSIVE – Team hopes for wins in weekend’s games

This weekend, the Horned Frogs will play New Mexico at the Johnson Center in Albuquerque, N.M., and then travel to Colorado Springs, Colo., to take on Air Force on Sunday.TCU looks to even the season series with a win over New Mexico on Friday.

Earlier this year, TCU fell behind 2-0 before rallying to tie the match, but then dropped the fifth game 15-12 to the Lobos. Head coach Prentice Lewis said she hopes the team’s determination will allow it to prevail.

“New Mexico is a great team, and hopefully we will really play hard and disciplined. And if we do that, we should come out on top,” Lewis said.

Lewis said the tournaments in the latter part of the year are unclear.

“We will come into the tournament with no idea where we are seeded,” Lewis said.

Lewis said the team has struggled with injuries, but said the team will have to rise past them. She would not say which players are injured.

Freshman setter Nirelle Hampton also noted the team’s health status.

“Personally, I am going through some rough times.” Hampton said “I have gotten rest to get to 100 percent because I had a cold.

“We are down a couple key players and we must pull together to come out on top.”

Hampton said the team has made great strides to come together as one.

“We are pulling it together this past week, and we seem to have gotten a connection.”

Hampton said she feels more prepared the second time around against TCU’s rivals.

“We have seen everyone now, so this is round two.” Hampton said. “We are more prepared and stronger, and we know everyone is preparing for us as well.
