A run-off election will be held next Tuesday to determine the new student body president.According to the Student Body Code a candidate must receive “an absolute majority of the votes cast.” Because a candidate did not receive 50 percent of the vote, a run-off will be held between the top two candidates.

Trevor Heaney and Ryan Panno were the top two candidates receiving votes, said Sebastian Moleski, Elections and Regulations Committee Chair.

“I haven’t seen a run-off at TCU,” Panno said, “So I’m excited to see how it turns out.”

A debate between Panno and Heaney will be held next Monday at 11 a.m. in the Student Center Lounge. Panno said since the debate is only between two candidates it will give them a better opportunity to present their platforms.

“I hope students continue to pay attention to the elections,” Panno said. “There will be some good debating.”

Trevor Heaney was unavailable for comment.

Jace Thompson was elected vice president and said he is looking forward to representing the student body.

“I’m really excited and I appreciate everyone who voted for me,” Thompson said. “I want to be approachable and for students to feel free to contact me anytime.”

Brian Andrew was elected treasurer. He said he is already working on following through on his campaign promises, especially regarding the Activities Funding Board.

Alina Tennie, who ran unopposed, said she is excited about the opportunity to serve as director of programming council.

“I plan to make new director positions and new cultural positions,” said Tennie.

While results were available for the student body fee, whether they will be able to be used will be decided at a later date, Moleski said. The reason for this is because the referendum did not receive 2,000 total votes.
