Three unidentified male suspects remain on the loose after they assaulted and possibly tried to kidnap a woman near campus, according to a police report. The 22-year-old woman, who was not a TCU student, was getting out of her car in the parking lot of her apartment complex on the 3000 block of McPherson Avenue when the attack occurred around 3 a.m. Saturday, according to a police report.

“We don’t know for sure if it was kidnapping,” said Lt. Paul Henderson, Fort Worth police spokesman. “But we’re treating it as a kidnap attempt.”

According to a campus-wide crime alert sent by TCU Police Sgt. Kelly Ham, the suspects unsuccessfully attempted to throw the woman into their vehicle, described as a newer model black Chevrolet Tahoe.

Although the attack occurred about 3 a.m., the victim did not report it to the police until 6 p.m., said Lt. David Ellis of the Fort Worth Police Department

“I find that very unusual,” Ellis said.

According to the crime alert, two of the suspects grabbed the woman by the legs, and the other suspect covered her mouth.

The alert also stated the woman was able to scare the suspects away by screaming after she physically fought them off.

In order to prevent similar situations, Ham said, students shouldn’t travel alone and they should be aware of their surroundings.

Fort Worth police authorities said a detective has not yet been assigned to this case, but one will be within the next couple of days.
