SGA opens semester with six bills, resolutions

The Student Government Association’s House of Representatives is starting its fall semester tonight with a slew of legislation.

“A Bill to Modify Campaign Rules”

Introduced by: Elections & Regulations Committee

This bill would more clearly define when a candidate could campaign for office, as well as runoff procedure and election days.

“A Bill to Clarify Standards for People Involved in Campaigns”

Introduced by: Elections & Regulations Committee

If this bill is passed, candidates running for office would need written consent of TCU affiliated individuals before their words or images could be used to gather votes for that candidate.

“A Bill to Determine Members of Campaign Staffs”

Introduced by: Elections & Regulations Committee

This bill would make candidates name members of their campaign staff, and it would clarify that candidates are responsible for the actions of members of their campaign staff. It would also require campaign staff members to attend an election information session.

“A Bill to Amend Line 2423 of the Student Body Code”

Introduced by: Elections & Regulations Committee

This bill would more clearly define “campaigning” in the student body code and would give the Elections & Regulations Committee discretion to determine the difference between formal and informal announcements.

“A Resolution to Dedicate the 95th Session of the House of Representatives to the Students of Texas Christian University”

Introduced by Justin Brown, Student Relations Chair

This resolution describes the purpose of SGA and then resolves to serve the student body to the best of its ability and to do its best to improve the quality of TCU and its students.

“A Resolution to Create a Graduation Recognition Task Force”

Introduced by Myra Mills, Fine Arts Representative, and Justin Brown, Student Relations Chair

This resolution would create a task force to establish a recognized graduation honor for members of SGA based on semesters served, leadership positions held, GPA and approval of an adviser.
