SGA amends election campaign rules

The Student House of Representatives met Tuesday for the first time this semester and unanimously passed two pieces of legislation in The Chambers on the third floor of the Brown-Lupton Student Union.

One bill that passed specifies campaigning times, which will now begin at midnight two weeks prior to the first day of elections and continue until the polls close on the last election day. The bill, introduced by the Elections and Regulations Committee, also gives the Regulations Committee discretion in determining the difference between formal and informal campaigning announcements.

Introduced by Myra Mills, a fine arts representative, and Justin Brown, student relations chair, the second piece of legislation is a resolution that forms a task force to create a graduation honors system for Student Government Association members depending on the semesters served, GPA, leadership positions held and an adviser’s approval.

Four other pieces of legislation were put on hold to be discussed at a later date.
