Despite an early exit from the conference tournament, the university has been chosen as a host site for the 2009 NCAA Division 1 Baseball Tournament, according to NCAA.com. This is TCU’s first time to host an NCAA baseball regional. Being named as a host site grants the Horned Frogs a spot in the field of 64, which will be released Monday at 11:30 a.m.
The university is one of three Texas schools to host a tournament this year, the others being Rice University and the University of Texas. The University of Oklahoma also received the nod for a site.
By rule, no team can play in a regional with another team of the same conference; therefore, TCU would not have to face Utah, New Mexico or San Diego State, all of who are on the bubble to make the field. This rule also would keep Texas A&M out of the Austin and Norman Regional, potentially placing them in the Houston or Fort Worth Regional as a two seed.
The Horned Frogs are hosting a watching party, open to the public, during the selection show at 11:30 a.m. Monday in the Kelly Alumni Center. The selection show will be aired on ESPN.
