Defense classes full, additional workshop created

A surge in interest in the Rape Aggression Defense workshop has prompted TCU Police to add a third class this fall, an officer said.

Campus police usually offers one class every semester, but the number of students who want to take the class has increased in light of the recent reports of sexual assault, Crime Prevention Officer Pam Christian said. The other two classes scheduled are already full, she said.

If more students continue to show interest in the workshop, there will be more than one class next semester, Christian said. Students are noticing RAD is a good way to take responsibility for their safety, she said.

The two-day program is scheduled from 1 p.m. to 7 p.m. Nov. 21 and from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Nov. 22 in classroom No. 44 in the University Recreation Center. Students must be able to attend class both days.

The workshop teaches women realistic self-defense tactics and techniques.

RAD is a free program. Women can sign up for the class online at www.police.tcu.edu/RADonlineregis.htm.
