Across baseball, men’s and women’s tennis and men’s and women’s track and field, TCU will have introduced about fifty new players to the field, courts and track by the end of this semester.

Featuring a bevy of freshmen and transfers from other colleges and universities, the teams that TCU fields this semester will have quite a few new faces for fans to become familiar with.

On the baseball field, TCU will introduce seven freshmen, including Matt Purke, a left-handed pitcher who was drafted by the Texas Rangers with the 14th overall pick of the 2009 Major League Baseball draft.

Rivals.com ranked Purke as the No. 1 high school prospect in the country.

In addition to the freshmen, three transfers, Jerome Pena, Kyle Starratt and Joe Weik, will play for the Horned Frog baseball team for the first time this season.

The men’s tennis team has four new faces this spring, including Indiana University transfer Paul Chappell. He will get to play tennis for the Frogs this season after sitting out last season because of the National Collegiate Athletics Association’s transfer rule, which stipulates that a transfer must spend a year in residence at his or her new school before participating in an NCAA event.

The women’s tennis team features two transfers, right-handed players Megan Alexander and Shalini Sahoo.

The track teams boast a total of 22 new faces this season. Three of those new faces are transfers from other schools.
