College students seem to have a reliance on caffeine to get them through lectures and late night study sessions, but there are healthier alternatives to power through the day.

Spring season clubs become active

One club sport has already begun its spring season, and others will start this weekend or in the coming months. Here’s a look at some of the university’s club teams and their plans for this semester.

Ultimate Frisbee:

The ultimate frisbee club team began its spring season after splitting the co-ed team from the fall into separate men and women’s teams. The team usually competes in one tournament a month with a sectional tournament in April. If the team is successful at the sectional tournament, it may earn a spot to a regional tournament or a national tournament, which it has never achieved.

Men’s Lacrosse:

The lacrosse club team will begin its season Saturday in Fort Worth against Centenary. The team is returning 18 veteran members and welcoming five new players.

“We’re expecting great, great things out of this season,” said senior engineering major and team president Steele Struble.

Baseball:

After a successful fall season, the club baseball team begins its spring run March 20 with plans to host games against Missouri and Sam Houston State. The team will also be traveling for games against the University of Texas, Texas A&M and Texas Tech.

Wakeboarding:

The wakeboarding team is planning to travel to tournaments in Dallas, Beaumont and Austin. The team will begin practicing in March, and the first tournament will be in April.
