After winning two games in last week’s three-game series against San Diego State University, the Frogs are looking to end their five-game homestand on a high note.
The Frogs are set to face the University of Oklahoma Sooners at Lupton Stadium tonight. The Sooners are coming off a weekend series against the University of Texas Longhorns.
The Sooners come in ranked No. 19 in the nation but are on a losing streak after being beat by their rivals in Austin for three straight games. They have one of the best defenses in the Big 12, ranking No. 3 in the conference in fielding percentage.
The Sooners will likely lean on the hitting of sophomore Cameron Seitzer, who leads the team in home runs with seven. The Sooners will also look for their pitching rotation to continue to be solid as they rank No. 3 in the Big 12 with a team ERA of 3.55 and No. 2 in the league in strikeouts with a total of 269.
But the Frogs will try to win the last game of their five-game homestand before playing a stretch of non-conference games that include Houston, Texas A&M and Dallas Baptist University. The Frogs hope to see the hot bat of Brance Rivera continue to stay hot. The sophomore from Muscatine, Iowa, finished the series against San Diego State University with six RBI’s and moved his batting average to .531, which leads the team.
The pitching staff also hopes to continue its great season with the top ERA in the Mountain West at 3.53 , as well as tied for the most strikeouts at 211.
Head coach Jim Schlossnagle said he was satisfied with the Frog’s performance this past weakened against the Aztecs. He said the team will be ready for tonight’s game.
“We’ll be ready,” Schlossnagle said. “We will get as far away from baseball as we can, get after it at practice on Monday and will be ready to play on Tuesday.”
