Senior catcher Bryan Holaday received the title of MWC Hitter of the Week for his performance in five games last week.
This makes it the fourth in Holaday’s total career, third this season and the sixth of the season for Horned Frogs.
The TCU Horned Frogs are ranked No. 5 in the MWC, moving up with its fourth straight series sweep, the first in the university’s history, against the Utah Utes on Sunday. TCU improved to a 34-9 conference winning streak on the season and 14-3 in league play. The Frogs will take the week off for finals and return to travel to New Mexico for a pivotal Mountain West Conference showdown with the Aztecs. Friday’s series-opener is set for 1 p.m.
Holaday turned in an 11-for-21 (.524) effort at the plate last week as the baseball team posted a 4-1 record. He recorded multi-hit outings in four of the five games, finishing the week with nine runs batted in, eight runs scored, five doubles, four home runs and two walks overall.
On Tuesday’s victory over Baylor, Holaday went 3-for-5 with two doubles and one RBI. He followed that performance on Wednesday with a 2-for-2 effort against Baylor, getting a home run once to contribute one run scored and one RBI in the contest.
Nine of Holaday’s 11 hits of the week went for extra bases, as he posted a 1.333 slugging percentage and .583 on-base percentage. Defensively, Holaday recorded 37 putouts without an error from his catcher’s position.
Other players honored this season include sophomore outfielder Jason Coats, freshman pitcher Matt Purke and sophomore pitcher Kyle Winkler.
