TCU head baseball coach Jim Schlossnagle was named the National College Baseball Association’s National Coach of the Year Saturday.
“It’s a program award for sure,” Schlossnagle said. “Obviously I’m very humbled to receive it, considering the names that are on that trophy and the fact that Dick Howser and Coach Bertman were in the room.
“We won 52 games (this season) because I have a really, really good coaching staff and some really, really good players.”
Schlossnagle has led TCU to seven NCAA Regional tournaments in seven seasons and has tallied six Mountain West Conference Coach of the Year awards.
379-179 as a head coach and 302-132 as TCU’s skipper, Schlossnagle was apart of the Tulane coaching staff during their 2001 CWS appearance.
“Well, I think when you look at TCU and what Jim (Schlossnagle) has accomplished in a short period of time, you’ve really got to take your hat off,” said Florida State head baseball Coach Mike Martin during a Friday press conference. “This is a program that nobody even thought about five, six, seven years ago.
“Jim comes in and starts really getting after it recruiting-wise, and now he’s got a tremendous fan base.”
The NCBWA is comprised of writers, broadcasters and publicists. Founded in 1962, The NCBWA is college baseball’s only college media-related organization.
