FORTWORTH, Texas — For the second consecutive year, the Horned Frogs’ football team finished in the top 10 and baseball team gained entry into the Super Regionals, making TCU one of four teams in the nation to reach both achievements this season.
The only other schools to have a top-10 football program this season as well as a baseball team in the Super Regionals are Alabama, Florida and Texas. The Horned Frogs, Crimson Tide, Gators and Longhorns also played in BCS games in the 2009 football campaign.
Last year, TCU, Texas and Florida were the only three schools to finish in the top 10 in football and advance to the Super Regionals in baseball.
The football team was sixth in 2009 season-ending polls after finishing seventh following the 2008 campaign. TCU football has three top-10 final rankings in the last five years.
The Horned Frogs baseball team has had a record-setting season in 2010. The regional-clinching victory over Baylor on Sunday gave the Frogs a single-season record 49 wins.
The Frogs already hold the season record for home runs (90) and doubles (170). They are on pace to set the record for batting average in a season and slugging percentage in a season. The Frogs enters the Super Regional weekend as they only team in the nation to be a perfect 13-0 in weekend series this season.
TCU baseball opens Super Regional play Friday at Texas. First pitch is 2 p.m. on ESPN2. Saturday’s game is at noon on ESPN. Sunday’s contest, if necessary, is at 3 p.m. on ESPN.
