Mountain West Conference has confirmed previous reports that it has extended invitations to Fresno State and Nevada for the 2011 season, according to ESPN Dallas.
Brigham Young University intends to announce they will be leaving the conference in a press conference Thursday, to become an independent in football and a member of the Western Athletic Conference for all other sports. This followed the University of Utah’s departure to the Pac 10 earlier this summer.
ESPN is reporting the remaining hang-up in bringing the Bulldogs and Wolf Pack to the MWC involves a buyout agreement the remaining WAC teams signed following Boise State’s announced 2011 jump to the Mountain West.
The remaining WAC teams signed a $5 million buyout agreement that would be assessed to any member that left the conference within the next five years.
