The Horned Frog volleyball team heads to New Brunswick, N.J. for the Rutgers Invitational this weekend concerned more with its own performance than with upcoming opponents, head coach Prentice Lewis said.

The volleyball team also has to worry about how to cope with the injury of its main setter, Megan Munce, and utilize the back up setter, she said. Munce will not play in the tournament due to a knee injury received last week against LSU.

Lewis said Meghan Horio, sophomore defensive specialist and setter, has done a good job filling in for Munce, even though she has not run set plays since high school. Lewis said Horio has great hands, good sense on the court and does a great job running the offense.

Senior right side hitter Christy Hudson said the team had many things to work on for the tournament, such as trying to play as one unit instead of as individuals.

“We have a new setter now, so we need to work on our connections as far as hitting (as well as) the different sets we can play and getting a little creative on our offense,” Hudson said.

Lewis said she was concerned about the team not being ready for the upcoming tournament. She said the team was doing some really good things, but that there had been times this season when players had not defended as well as they could have, including setting decisions.

Senior outside hitter Irene Hester said the thing the team needed to work on most was its consistency when going into the tournament.

“We (were) so close in the LSU match and Baylor match, taking them to five games,” Hester said. “We just haven’t been able to finish it out and it’s because of our consistency.”
