Omega Psi Phi Fraternity Incorporated and American Red Cross are inviting TCU students, faculty, staff, and the surrounding community to their “Charles R. Drew Memorial Blood Drive” Nov. 1 at 4:00 p.m. in the Brown-Lupton University Union auditorium.

Omega Psi Phi president, junior Byron Bailey, said his organization hoped to keep their late fraternity brother’s legacy alive through this blood drive here on the university’s campus.

“He saved millions of lives during World War II by systematically putting in place an effective way for people to come and revive by doing blood drives,” he said.

Drew was an African American scientist who did research in the field of blood transfusions and was one of the first to implement a systematic way of storing blood, he said.

This blood drive is a way for the organization as well as the TCU community to give back to the community and neighboring hospitals, he said.

“A lot of people give back by doing community service or by donating money,” he said. “We want to give life in its most essential form, and that is through blood.”

Omega Psi Phi is a National Pan-Hellenic Council organization, founded on TCU’s campus in 1982, he said.
