Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs Don Mills will take on a new role at the university following the end of the spring semester, according to an e-mail from the provost.

Provost Nowell Donovan wrote in an e-mail to faculty and staff Tuesday afternoon that Mills would become a Distinguished Professor of Educational Leadership in the College of Education starting June 1, 2011.

“In this capacity he will again match his talents to his passion, placing his many years of practical experience at the service of higher education as we all look to grasp the challenges and embrace the opportunities of the future,” Donovan wrote.

As Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs, Mills currently oversees Residential Services, Health Services, Campus Life, Student Development Services, Career Services and University Ministry, as well as campus security, crime prevention and parking through the TCU Police, according to the university’s Web site.

Mills, who received his undergraduate degree from Harvard University, has served in many different positions in his 28 years at the university. Previous positions include director of housing and associate vice chancellor.

According to the university Web site, Mills received graduate degrees from TCU and the University of North Texas.

Mills has been serving in his current role for 17 years, Donovan wrote. He will continue his current responsibilities until the end of the spring semester of the 2010-2011 school year.

Mills was not available for comment by the time of publication.
