TCU Swimming and Diving faces UNLV

Viva Las Vegas!

TCU’s swimming and diving teams will face the UNLV Rebels at 7 p.m. CT at Buchanan Natatorium in Las Vegas, Nevada. The men’s swimming and diving teams are ranked No. 32 in the December edition of the CollegeSwimming.com/CSCAA Division I Poll.

Juniors Laszlo Gyurko and Edgar Crespo lead the Frogs in the backstroke and breaststroke, respectively. Gyurko is the MWC leader in the 100-backstroke and 200-backstroke, while Crespo is second on the MWC 200-breaststroke list and third on the 100-breaststroke list.

The Frogs will square off with the only top 25 team in the MWC8212;The Rebels are No. 16 in the CollegeSwimming.com/CSCAA Division I Poll. Kier Maitland leads UNLV in distance events and recently named the Mountain West Conference Swimmer of the Week.

TCU’s women’s team features six seniors, including three-time All-MWC selection Maria Paula Alvarez. Sophomore Sabine Rasch has become an instant star for the Horned Frogs in the sprint events, posting a 5-1 record in the 50-free and 100-free so far this season in dual events.

The Rebel women are tied for the third spot in the MWC standings with the Frogs. Freshman Jessica Heim has twice been named the MWC’s Swimmer of the Week this season.

Series History

The Frog men are 1-3 all-time against UNLV. Until a year ago, when TCU dropped the Rebels by a score of 177-117 to clinch the Mountain West Conference regular season title, TCU had never beaten UNLV. All of the meetings between the two schools, on both the men and women’s sides, have come since the two schools have been members of the Mountain West Conference.

The Frog women are 0-4 all-time against UNLV. A year ago, the Rebel women picked up a 174.5-123.5 decision in Fort Worth. The last time the two schools met in Las Vegas, UNLV claimed a 166-134 win.

Order of Events

Diving events will be contested earlier in the afternoon, before swimming is set to being at 7 p.m. CT. The women’s event will proceed the men’s event and diving scores will be inputted in their respective spots.
