The GrandMarc’s north tower pool will be an unfriendly 40 degrees for Friday’s Polar Bear Plunge, an event where participants compete to see who can stay in the pool the longest.

Residence Hall Association Senator DJ Walsted said the event will be raising money for the Samaritan House by accepting donations from the contest’s participants. Fifty cent hot chocolate and free s’mores will be provided at the event.

“We are trying to build a community and awareness that the GrandMarc is holding events and has fun stuff to do for TCU,” Walsted said.

According to its website, the Samaritan House is a community that provides housing and resources to people living with HIV/AIDS and other special needs.

The Samaritan House opened in 1993 with the capacity for 32 people. Over the years it has grown and has a current capacity of 350 people, according to the website.

Walsted said students who plan on taking the plunge need to arrive by 3:45 p.m. to be ready to jump in at 4 p.m.
