The TCU band will perform at Sundance Square Monday for ESPN’s Mike and Mike in the Morning radio program.

The performance was set after Ed Bass called the athletic office wanting the band to participate in the show, associate director of bands Brian Youngblood, said.

“The group will be staged and possibly get on national TV and be heard nationally on the radio,” Youngblood said.

Bobby R. Francis, director of bands, said the show will broadcast at 5:00 a.m. and the band will take about 45 students to the event. This will begin ESPN’s broadcast coverage from Sundance Square for the Super Bowl and Super Bowl-related events, he said.

“It’s a nice opportunity, and it sounds like a lot of fun,” Francis said.

Senior trombone player Matt Williams said the band rehearsed Wednesday night in preparation for the performance. He said it is important to be flexible because of the last-minute arrangements that are made for this event.

Drum major Spencer Heath said the band’s approach to an event like this to provide entertainment to the audience. Heath said that the band hopes to hype up the crowd early in the morning.

“Our goal when we go to something like that is to add value to the event,” he said.

Francis said in addition to the performance for Mike and Mike in the Morning the band will also perform at the ESPN Magazine Next party on Feb. 5. The party will take place in the Stockyards and will be open to the public, he said.

Youngblood said the band will perform to a crowd anywhere between 5,000 to 6,000 people.

Williams said the performances are great publicity for the band and the TCU community.
