Sophomore pitcher Matt Purke and junior outfielder Jason Coats have been named preseason All-Americans by Baseball America.
Purke, who was the National Freshman of the Year in 2010 after pitching a 16-0 record, was also named a first-team preseason All-American by the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association as well as Collegiate Baseball. Purke held a 3.02 ERA in 20 appearances and won every game pitched in the 2010 NCAA postseason, including a 3-1 victory over the Texas Longhorns in the Austin Super Regional, an 8-1 victory over Florida State in the College World Series and another 6-2 victory against UCLA in TCU’s last win of the season in Omaha.
Coats was named to Baseball America’s second-team after setting a TCU record with 99 hits in 2010. Coats batted .361 and hit 13 home runs with 69 RBIs. Coats was named to the third-team of NCBWA and Collegiate Baseball’s All-America teams.
