The TCU equestrian team gets back in action Sunday against the Fresno State Bulldogs for the first time since Jan. 30, when it defeated Delaware State 15-5.
The Frogs’ match with Baylor at the Fort Worth Stock Show was canceled because of bad weather last Friday.
TCU is 4-0 to start the year and is ranked No. 5 in the country.
The Frogs’ opponent, No. 9 Fresno State, won its first and only match of the spring thus far, defeating the University of Miami of Ohio and Ohio State.
The Bulldogs pulled out a 9-3 win over Miami (OH) in English and a 7-2 victory over Ohio State in Western competition.
Sophomore Lanie Madrazo earned MVP honors in the combined 16-5 win over the Ohio schools.
Sunday’s match will be Fresno State’s first competition since that Jan. 29 win.
Both TCU and Fresno State have riders who were chosen to compete at the Winter Equestrian Festival in Wellington, Fla. The Frogs’ Victoria Lee and the Bulldogs’ Kimberly Hewson Budnik each earned a spot at the festival.
For the Frogs, senior Jessica Hagen and juniors Taylor Frederick and Courtney Chown will attempt to build on their MVP performances from the Jan. 30 win over DSU.
The Frogs have five riders with 3-0 records to begin the season.
Fresno State will take on TCU and SMU this weekend. Fresno State was originally slated for a match with Baylor, but the Bears are unable to compete, according to a Fresno State press release.
