Sorority collects prom dresses for high school students

Alpha Kappa Alpha sorority helped area high school students feel like Cinderella for a night.

The organization held a dress drive on campus and collected 32 used prom dresses to donate to Goodwill stores.

Event coordinator Paige Zinsou said the event was successful because people on campus were eager to help.

“We had a lot of support,” Zinsou said. “It’s for Goodwill, so I think that probably helps that it’s not just about us on campus, it’s to help young ladies.”.

Alpha Kappa Alpha president Liberty Bell said the event was special to her because she was not able to afford her own prom dress as a high school senior. But with the help of some “fairy godparents,” she got a dress in time.

“Just this one dress or three dresses, however many you have in your closet will benefit someone, so that’s great,” Bell said.
