Sandi Breaux, council aide for District 3, told members of the Westcliff Neighborhood Association Thursday night that the six lane Hulen bridge will open in 2013.

Breaux said Tarrant County officials continue to campaign for funding in Austin. She said the county suffers from $31 million in debt.

Breaux also explained new City Council rules on citizen input at meetings. She said the City Council struggles to balance public input from the same people without tying up staff.

“It’s a fine line that they’re trying to walk right now,” Breaux said.

Fort Worth Water Department representative Mary Gugliuzza spoke on efficient water usage and told Westcliff residents that homeowners in Fort Worth with houses built before 1995 are eligible to apply for up to two dual-flush toilets. She said interested applicants can visit www.savefortworthwater.org to obtain the vouchers, but citizens are responsible for the installation themselves.

Gugliuzza also explained a new pipeline that will transfer reusable water throughout the area. The Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport will purchase the water for cooling towers, which will use the water year-round, and irrigation. Gugliuzza said 23 percent of the city’s future water supply would be from reuse and conservation.

The next board meeting will be April 7 to discuss future neighborhood board positions.
