Nuutinen leads Frogs in Sunday round at Battle at Rancho Bernardo Inn

TCU shot a 322 and is in 17th place after Sunday’s opening round of the inaugural Battle at Rancho Bernardo Inn.

Rated as the nation’s fourth-toughest event for the 2011 spring season, The Battle at Rancho Bernardo Inn includes only top-50 ranked teams.

Sanna Nuutinen, the lone freshman in TCU’s lineup, led the No. 33 Horned Frogs with a 77 and is tied for 43rd individually.

TCU junior Brooke Beeler birdied two of her opening three holes en route to a team-best three birdies on the day. She finished with a 78.

No. 2 UCLA leads the field with a 5-over-par 293. No. 25 UC Davis is one shot back at 294.

Arizona State’s Giulia Molinaro sits atop the leader board after an opening-round 69, one stroke ahead of Purdue’s Laura Gonzalez. Only five of the 96 individuals shot below par.

Monday’s second-round tee times are at 11 a.m. CDT. Live scoring is available at www.Golfstat.com.
