The TCU men’s golf team tied for fourth place at the National Invitational Tournament played at OMNI Tucson National Golf Club in Tucson, Ariz.

The Horned Frogs combined to play 4-under par golf during Tuesday’s final round for a 284-stroke total, which was the second-lowest score among the 15-squad field. TCU shared fourth place with No. 30 Indiana while finishing 17 strokes behind the tournament champion, No. 46 Tulsa (+11). The final round was played on the par-72, 7,245-yard Catalina Course.

Among the teams TCU defeated during the two-day event were all four Mountain West Conference foes among the field in No. 44 UNLV, Colorado State, New Mexico and Wyoming. The Frogs also downed a second top-50 squad in No. 38 Kent State.

Senior Tom Hoge finished off a strong final two rounds by tying for fourth place in the 95-person individual standings at -1. Hoge, who was 6-over par after Round 1, followed up his second-round 68 with a 5-under-par 67 Tuesday. The final-round score matched the low round of the tournament. Hoge has now shot par or better in six of his last seven rounds after playing bogey-free golf Tuesday.

Sophomore Pontus Gad also recorded a top-10 finish, tying for eight place at +2 following Tuesday’s even-par 72 finish. Gad’s score did not count toward TCU’s team total, however, as he was competing only as an individual as the Frogs’ sixth entry. The result marked the second-best individual placing of his career while also matching his No. 2 three-round scoring total as a Frog.

Junior Johan de Beer joined Hoge and Tulsa’s John Young Kim as the only players to shoot 67 on Tuesday. The Pretoria, South Africa, native rallied during the final round to finish in a tie for 11th place at +4 for the tournament. Like Hoge, de Beer also was bogey-free on his round.

Sophomore Daniel Jennevret tied for 30th place at +10 following a final-round 74, while junior Eli Cole and senior Scott Roudebush both finished with a share of 66th place at +18. Roudebush fired a 76 Tuesday, while Cole went for a 79.

Arizona’s Jonathan Khan won the individual title with a 4-under score of 210.

TCU returns to the links April 4-5, when it travels to Austin, Texas for the Morris Williams Intercollegiate at the TU Golf Club.
