The Texas Rangers have received their American League championship rings.
A day after raising their championship flag before the season opener, the rings were handed out to returning players, coaches and staff during a pregame ceremony Saturday night. The first of 49 rings was presented to team president and CEO Nolan Ryan.
It is the first championship ring for fifth-year Rangers manager Ron Washington, who has been in pro baseball as a player or coach for 40 years.
Colby Lewis, who was 3-0 with a 1.71 ERA in his four postseason starts last fall, didn’t receive his ring on the field because he was preparing for his start against Boston. His brother, Zack, accepted the ring for the right-hander.
