Four more members of the TCU Horned Frogs baseball team were selected in the third and final day of the 2011 MLB Draft Wednesday. The Frogs finished the draft with a record eight players selected, up from the six selected in 2010.

Junior Erik Miller was the first Frog selected on the third day in the 31st round by the Cincinnnati Reds.

Miller appeared in 26 games in 2011, and started nine games for the Frogs. He finished the year with a 7-7 record and a 4.63 ERA, striking out 58 batters in the process.

Senior starting pitcher Steven Maxwell was selected in the 37th round by the Chicago Cubs. Maxwell only appeared in 11 games in 2011 due to injuries, but still went 5-1 with a 3.13 ERA in 63 1/3 innings pitched.

In 2010, Maxwell was a 2nd-team Louisville Slugger all-American and Mountain West Conference Pitcher of the Year. Maxwell had pitched for the Frogs since 2007, and was also drafted by the Minnesota Twins in the 12th round of the 2010 MLB Draft.

Senior second baseman Jerome Pena was taken in the 38th round by the Baltimore Orioles. Pena could potentially reunite with fellow teammate Jason Coats, who was selected in the 10th round Tuesday.

Pena started in all but one game of the 2011 season, hitting .263 with one home run and 31 runs batted in. In 2010, Pena was the first-team all-Mountain West Conference selection at second base.

Finally, Junior relief pitcher Kaleb Merck was selected by the Texas Rangers in the 42nd round. Merck missed the entire 2011 season after undergoing Tommy John surgery. In his sophomore season, Merck made 22 appearances in relief, finishing with a team-low 1.47 ERA in 30 2/3 innings. Merck also struck out 23 batters while only walking six.

Both Merck and Miller are eligible to return for their senior seasons if they decide to not sign with their respective teams.
